A Creative Portrait Session on the Oaxacan Coast

Working as a Mazunte photographer on this project with Sunru — a poet, musician, and artist — was deeply inspiring. Over two days, we explored the village of Mazunte, Oaxaca, capturing images for a documentary directed by Nick Werber that reflected the raw depth of Sunru’s creativity.

When Nick invited me into the project, I felt honored. I began planning the shoot with care, knowing how much intention both he and Sunru bring to their work. Each location became a living canvas: the rhythm of the ocean, the textures of painted walls, and the golden Oaxacan light all merged with Sunru’s presence.

This was more than a shoot — it was a collaborative portrait session in Mazunte, guided by energy and trust. Experiences like this remind me why I’m drawn to photography in Oaxaca: the way a subject’s essence can shape a story, and how the land itself becomes part of the frame.

Art meets presence, soul meets shadow.
